Podcasts
Podcasts. Where the hell have I been? I know abstrakONE has posted about them a few times in his blog, but as quick as he goes through technology I never know what he’s tossed and what he’s kept. I gave it a try yesterday and this tech is a keeper.
I downloaded iPodder and inadvertently fell into the iTune mire. For anyone installing it for the first time, make sure you change your player preference first thing if you want to hang on to winamp as your default mp3 player. It’s an odd setting, but it’ll roll to whatever software your system wants to use:
File > Preferences > Player > None
I’m still going through the top podcasts from PodcastAlley.com but so far these are my favorites:
- Keith and The Girl: These two are professional clowns from what I’ve gathered listening to a couple podcasts. And they’re hilarious. It reminds me of one of those morning shows on the radio with two people you like but without all the gimmicks. Very enjoyable.
- Soccer Girl, Incorporated: If I had to compare her to any well-known personality it would be George Carlin. She’s very smart and throughout her podcast she may get a little offensive to illustrate a point. There is a touch of X-rated content from time to time, so this isn’t something you want to listen to with your desktop speakers at work.
- The Daily Source Code: I was listening to this last night with Ivy (my wife, for the uninitiated) and she pegged Adam Curry (the host) as a former MTV VJ. The content is all over the place, but he ties it all together nicely. There’s some music, some geek, and whole lot of personality.
- Lynn Parsons: I was referred to this podcast by Adam Curry’s and I figured, what the hell, I like British accents. It downloaded really slowly, but I figured it was either a really busy server or had really narrow bandwidth. There was this skit with these two other people (they may have been the same person) about a pottery wheel and music from Ghost. It was really hard to get through and the person attempting to play the woman was really bad (think affected female voice). I hope this isn’t a regular thing, but I’ll give it another try next week.
I’m still experimenting with a few subscriptions, so I’ll let you know what else is tasty next week. What would rock would be something Irish—yeah, something with some teeth.
