On Traveling and Fitness

I just spent 2 months, albeit with a couple breaks, in the Dallas/Fort Worth area working for one of our customers. Over that time I spent my evenings in restaurants hanging out with the people I’d gotten to know a bit and, you guessed it, eating stuff I have no business even being near. The fallout was an unpward swing on the scale to the tune of 20 lbs.

Now I’m on to the next site and I’m trying something different. It’s the area around the University of Washington where everything is within walking distance. I turned in my rental and I’m hoofing it everywhere I go for the next 5 weeks. It’s a half mile, uphill, to the customer’s site and there are food establishments along the way. So far I’ve found a good pita place, and a 24 hour subway. I’ve been doing the pita thing for lunch and subway for breakfast/dinner because it’s on the way to the hotel.

The nearest gym I’m allowed to use without paying a per-day charge is at my hotel’s sister location 2 blocks away (uphill). They have free weights, an adjustable bench, 2 elliptical machines, a treadmill, and something else I can’t quite identify. I’ll have to take a picture and see if you can help me out there. There are also bikes hanging on the wall. I’m wondering if we’re allowed to take them and head out into Seattle. I’m not staying at this hotel but they are letting me use the fitness center. Hmm…

I want to give a quick shout out to Taffy (that’s not her real name, but all I’m allowed to use). She’s has a renewed gusto for fitness and found a home on traineo and membership in the Geekfit community. Keep it up!
