Walk and Lock

In the morning I interviewed JrMint for a GeekFit episode we’re putting out shortly. He was the model interviewee. Aside from a couple questions he just ran with it. We talked about his motivation, what got him started, and what’s going to keep him going after he hits his target weight. Good stuff!
In the afternoon I [...]

Noticed Progress

There’s a particularly awesome trainer at my local Ballys. Her physique reminds me of Demi Moore in 1997’s GI Jane. The sum of our interaction since 2005 has been a wave and a smile and the occasional, “are you still using this?” when she’s training someone out on the weight room floor.
Yesterday I was laying [...]

Weekend Forecast

On the professional front, my computer is up and running again. It turns out at some point I had jostled a power cord and un-jostled it and re-jostled it. My power supply was fine.
On the personal, Ivy and I had decided we (mostly me) were spending way too much eating out. Cutting back to Saturdays has [...]

Gym Rockingness

The gym rocked this morning. I got up at 7:30, answered a couple work emails/IMs, and then headed out to the gym. 30m on the treadmill + stretching. I overuse the word “serene” in this bit of audio, but it really was.

Trials of Returning

Returning from vacation is always tough on me. Due to Second Day Syndrome I’m having to force myself back into the gym routine. Rising at a reasonable time is a difficult because I’m stuck on staying up late the previous night. It’s just a bunch of different hurdles I have to clear in order to get back [...]

Six Dollars a Day

The food situation on the road has definitely improved. With the lovely wife helping me pick up everything I’ll need through Wednesday afternoon I have more time to hit the gym and relax in the hotel.
When I was packing on the last 70 lbs I was running per-diem receipts totaling $40–50/day easy. This trip I’ll [...]

Mutual Back Scratching

I have a single-club membership with Bally. That’s worked great for years, but not so much when I’m travelling.
Tonight I went to the nearest Ballys here in Kent expecting to pay a drop-in fee. Instead, I bought a box of protein bars (about $15 worth) and he wrote me a temporary pass that’s good through [...]

Whoa, Wrong Way - Turn Around!

I’ve been working as a “road warrior” for 11 months. Most of the time it’s enjoyable, but putting on 70 lbs when you fought so hard to lose 140 can be a little tough to swallow let alone bounce back from.
Ivy provided a lot of great suggestions and on the latest Geekfit episode Tucker and [...]

On Traveling and Fitness

I just spent 2 months, albeit with a couple breaks, in the Dallas/Fort Worth area working for one of our customers. Over that time I spent my evenings in restaurants hanging out with the people I’d gotten to know a bit and, you guessed it, eating stuff I have no business even being near. The [...]

Second Day Syndrome

I already touched on this a bit in a previous utter on GeekFit, but I wanted to elaborate a little here after I’d had some time to think about it.
Last week I was going to the gym pretty regularly and I could tell that I was feeling better. It was the usual batch of progress: [...]
